Red Burrito – Vancouver – Commercial Drive

Spicey Beef Red Burrito toppings

H and I grabbed lunch on the Drive and we settled down on Red Burrito -first time for the both of us. The menu has a small selection which is perfect for a small place. H asked for guacamole and they charge. What I find funny is that for a Mexican food joint, they charge extra for guacamole and cheese; for this reason, I start to  question the authenticity of this place. Why the hell would you charge on staple food items? This is like going for Pho and if you want Sriracha sauce and lime you’re gonna get charged…and no, you won’t get charge for that.

chicken burrito

The place was packed because it was during lunch hour. We both ate and walked along the drive. This is my chicken whole wheat burrito. Lots of filler items (got rice?). Not much goin on my burrito except poor quality.

spicy beef red burritoThis is H’s spicey beef tomato burrito. H said it’s nothing special. Basically, it looks the same as mine with the exception of spicy beef and tomato tortilla.

Overall, both of us won’t be heading back there… great staff, food bad. This just reminds me of those Chinese fast food restaurants offering you fake Chinese food. And Red Burrito replicates the same exact experience.

Address: 1700 Commercial Drive
Cost: $6 – $10
Verdict: Great staff, food bad.

Eat Clean Blueberry Pancakes

This one is from Oxygen. By far the most delicious pancake without all the junk. All you need is oatmeal, cottage cheese, egg whites and cinnamon. For those who hate the smell of cottage cheese (like myself) fret not because you can’t taste the cottage cheese… I kid you not.

Oatmeal, Eggs, Cinnamon Add in Cottage Cheese

Mix the following ingredients together

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal flour or just oatmeal (I just used coffee grinder to turn oatmeal into flour)
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup egg whites (4 egg whites)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Heat up pan on medium heat. I don’t add oil and it won’t stick on the pan which is the awesome part. When flipping the pancake, don’t let this pancake deceive you -wait until it’s cooked through for it to flip or it’ll break (trust me, it won’t stick & burn). After the pancakes were done, I heat up 1 cup of frozen blueberries on the same skillet. I’m not a fan of syrup… I just eat it with blueberries. Nom nom time.

Bunny Cookie Cutter
Bunny and bear cookie cutter. The bunny is a shape of some Japanese rabbit, compliments of Google search images. lol. Draw the shape of the cookie cutter so this acts (kind of) a mold on shaping the cookie cutter.

cookie cutter cookie cutter tutorial

  1. Cut across (both strips are 5 inches high)
  2. Draw 2 lines. 1 inch top and 1 inch bottom -this is the folding edge
  3. Fold the edges up accordingly; the edges allow you to connect the cutter together.

BLT Bagel

Had to prepare for food for this week. Good thing is… this week run is the last week for school because next week is study break.

Used turkey bacon, tomato, spinach and everything bagel. Used yogurt cheese for dressing.

Sunday Blues…

Loving the blue sky. But for some awkward reason, I still grabbed an umbrella just in case which is second nature to me.

For the last 2 weeks volunteering, the kids playgroup were preparing their dragons for Chinese New Year. Frankie came up with the idea for the dragon. So cute! It was a bit hectic because we had time constrictions and some had difficulties with their dragon. Nonetheless, it was fun. I wish I was a kid again…

As for this morning when I dropped by L&LH to volunteer, there was a competition for the kids playgroup. I think Winnie or Frankie came up with the competition. Also got a chance to meet new volunteers today too.

Competition - Girls Won

The girls team won.

Competition

Pretty funny watching the kids making them.. from one group forfeiting the competition due to their love of marshmallows. LOL.

Competition

This one looked like a scarecrow on a farm.

Afterward, headed to downtown for some errands and to meet-up with JC and Cameron. Rather, bumped into someone at London Drugs and was surprised. JC and Cameron saw how my “hi” was deployed… they extremely LOL at the other end of the store. FML. I realized how it was pathetic at how I said my hi and so I marinated in shame… only to make things worse.. I hid temporarily in the Depends aisle (without realizing) and my so-called-friends laughed even more. Talk about double FML.

I really hate timing. When you want to see someone, you never see them. And you only see someone when you least expect it. Gee TT___TT

Wholesome Blueberry Muffin

This is really filling… so filling, I stop when I reach halfway. Probably one of the best item to take on the way to school when I’m in a rush because this will last me all day.

Honey, Grapeseed Oil, Vanilla Extract

  • 3 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup honey (add more honey if you have a sweet tooth)
  • 1/3 cup or 1/2 cup grapeseed oil (I don’t use extra virgin olive oil because it still has distinguished smell that I don’t like)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups of frozen blueberries

Before: really gooey texture to handle so watch out. Pop them in the oven at 425F for 30 minutes

Simple and tasty stir-fry

sponsored post

Everyone loves a meal that is easy to make and that tastes great too, and often these are not actually that difficult to make. Stir-fries fit the bill nicely, not taking a long time to make and tasting really nice. When making a stir-fry you can really put anything in that you want, that’s the beauty of this type of dish. The basics include stir-fry noodles, some sort of vegetables and a great-tasting sauce. The sauce is what really makes it tasty, and thankfully you can buy ready-made stir-fry sauces from many stores.

So, your first job is to collect all of the ingredients together. Chop up things like peppers, onions, beansprouts, crispy lettuce and mushrooms. Basically anything you have lying around that you are not planning to snack on when playing partypoker or doing some work. Continue Reading →

Muesli

oats: barley flakes, rolled oats, flexeed, shweat germ, oat bran
Oat ingredients: barley flakes (1/2 cup), rolled oats (2 cups), flaxseed (1/4 cup), wheat germ (1/4 cup), oat bran (1/4)

Note: for flaxseeds, I used the Magic Bullet to grind them (prior to that, I used a coffee grinder which does the same job).
With all the oat ingredients in a LARGE mixing bowl, poor 3 cups of hot boiling water. Cover it overnight.

Dried fruit ingredients: raisins (1/2 cup), 1/4 cranberries, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup sliced almonds

Wet ingredients: 1 freshly juiced orange, honey (1/4 cup honey… 1/2 for those sweet tooth), plain yogurt (1 cup), 1 large apple chopped into pieces
Note: for the apple, I used magic bullet again or you can use a cheese shredder… or just cut them into chunks.
The next day, pour all dried fruit ingredients into large mixing bowl. Pour wet ingredients and mix dried fruit and oats together.

Muesli complete.

Shiro Sushi: Japanese Restaurant on Cambie

Shiro Sushi Japanese Restaurant: Shiro Lunch Menu Shiro Sushi Lunch Menu
Shiro Sushi’s lunch menu: No substitution allowed. Fair enough.. but still =(  lol.

Went to Shiro Sushi with Hoang -first time for the both of us. I think this place is skytrain accessible -just south of Canada Line Skytrain station: Broadway City Hall. We went in during lunch hour -not busy. But I heard from friends during dinner time, its jam packed and just want you to (1) order right away (2) eat asap and (3) GTFO -now thats what I call productivity. LOL.

At first glance… this place looks like a sketchy place to eat. But don’t let the exterior of the location deter you going in… because their food is freshly made and yummy (most of it)
